The Effigy Mounds America the Beautiful quarter is a coin issued by the
United States Mint in 2017 as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters
Program. It commemorates Effigy Mounds National Monument, which is
located in northeastern Iowa and is known for its ancient Native
American burial and ceremonial mounds in the shapes of animals and other
symbols. The design features a depiction of an eagle and a bear, two of
the many animals depicted in the mounds at the park. The reverse also
includes the inscriptions "Effigy Mounds," "Iowa," "E Pluribus Unum,"
and the year of issuance. The America the Beautiful Quarters Program is a
series of coins that honor some of America's most iconic and beloved
natural and cultural landmarks.
